Prague Quadrennial

Over the past few days in Prague, I’ve been drawn back to the Prague Quadrennial (PQ). It is such an immersive experience where we can experience important pieces of art that showcase what is significant to different regions. Visiting the PQ makes me feel like I’m in a different world. I’ve been going to different country exhibitions, PQ talks, and experiencing pop-up performance art.

So far, the Singapore exhibit has been one of my favorites. At first glance, it seems fairly bland and less experiential than others. When you begin the experience, it grows and becomes more complex. The main objective of the exhibit is to follow the instructions of a shipping label and pack a small trinket. When I did it, I received a small, green and yellow rhinoceros toy. They also have many side stories that can be focused on such as a story about a person feeling disconnected at a desk job or a smaller experience about what to do if  wolves surround you.

So far, I’ve been to two PQ talks. The one I went to yesterday was very interesting: trans/nonbinary scenography. It was interesting to hear about how queer people persist in different career paths. One of the speakers connected their experience to the ways of nature. One of the pop-up performance pieces had people dressed up as homes with a “realtor” selling these homes by singing a rendition of “Material Girl” by Mondona. Overall, my experience at PQ has been new and explorative.
