Prague Castle

Post written by Megan Cole

Today is the second Saturday in Europe and first in Prague. There has been a lot that has happened since we landed in Vienna last Friday; including going on tours, seeing architectural sites, seeing the landscape in both Austria and Vienna, trying the cultural food, and much more. Today our main visit was the Prague Castle in the bohemian region of Czechia. (Down below is a photo of the castle)

This castle was thought to be founded around 880 and was very fascinating to see. When walking around we noticed the architectural styles converge as history goes on within the castle. The combination of old and new shows how architecture in Czechia and how it has evolved over centuries. In the United States of America we are unable to see this in our buildings because we are still a relatively new country compared to Czechia and the rest of Europe. In the photo above you can see that the building in front is vastly different than the building in the back.

In the photo below you can see a better photo of the building in the back. This building is the Cathedral of St. Vitus and was built after the palace in the early 1900s. The architecture and building seemed to form and come together around the history of the bohemian area as it changed. The castle has gone through many renovations as leaders have changed in history and is seen through the castle. The cathedral is built in a gothic style where as most of the castle is built in a baroque and mannerism style. Down below are two more photos. The first photo is of the stained glass windows within the St. Vitus cathedral and the second photo is the view from the castle as you see the rest of Prague.

Every twist and turn within this castle made me say wow. When walking into St. Vitus cathedral I gasped as I saw the big stained glass windows, thinking to myself about how long that would take to make. To even getting to places where the rest of Prague can be seen, the view was breathtaking. I highly recommend going to the Prague Castle if you end up going to Prague. You will not be disappointed!
