Morning Moments in Cesky Krumlov

Post written by Lisa Gordillo

Just a quick trip to this little gem of a town with storybook storefronts, gentle river noises and Czech delicacies. Everything we read is right: come for more than a day because you’ll want to stay!

I stole a few moments to wander Mestsky park before breakfast this morning to enjoy the early morning

A view from the park of our lovely Hotel Gold

Pops of color everywhere. And with the very lightestdrizzle, everywhere the fresh smell of rain

A stone wall reflected in the Vltava River – which also runs through Prague. Nearby, I saw a fisherman moving nets through the water.

We were a bit late getting here, as plans change a lot during travel, but we enjoyed a tour of Cesky Krumlov castle, and of their Baroque theatre, built in 1776 (the oldest in Europe and as old as our country) with fully-maintained wing and drop scenery and rope and pulley mechanisms to move it.

I managed a (too, too) quick trip to the Elon Schiele Art Centrum, currently featuring bold, bright paintings by JanzFranz on three floors.

Their uppermost floor is dedicated to Scheile. Photos of his work are not allowed, but I sketched what I saw in a small sketchbook of his, captivated by the swift, deliberate strokes of his hand, sharp scratches on the page to mark trees, sky …

Small moments of beauty everywhere.
